defaultChoiceValues

defaultChoiceValues(steps): SubmissionData

The initial value(s) a Choice field’s own authored default option(s) seed on first render (issue #487) — keyed by submission key, the same shape as SubmissionData itself. Checkbox seeds every default option’s value as an array (more than one may legitimately be selected); Select/Radio seed the first default option’s value alone, defensively, in case a malformed payload carries more than one (the server rejects that shape outright, but this must not crash either way). A field with no default option is simply absent from the result.

Walked with empty data — this answers “what does a respondent who hasn’t answered anything yet see pre-selected”, which is exactly the moment this seeds: a Variant/conditional-step that isn’t satisfied by an empty answer set contributes nothing, matching what the respondent’s first paint actually shows.
